Lazy Fisherman

I know it is a failing market but it is something I would really like to experience before (call me a pessimist if you like) it is completely dead.

I would love to work as a trawlerman for a job, I think it is a hard, noble and therefore fulfilling life, but there isn’t much scope for it any more. It would be great if I could work on a trawler just for a few days or weeks, just to see what the environment is like, pay homage to the men I’ve always admired, and be able to tell their story when I am a bearded old man.

Do you think this is a viable ambition and how can I go about pursuing it? Are trawler boat captains likely to let me work for them (unpaid) for a short amount of time?

I’d be interested to hear any sensible answers.

PS, I am based in the SW UK, I believe my nearest fishing port is Poole.

I would like to work on an Alaskan fishing boat but don’t know how to go about getting into the business. I’m a hard worker and have worked in an industry where i was on call 24hrs a day for 6-7 days a week for the past 7 years. I would like to know if there is a way to get information or contacts to get into the commercial fishing industry in Alaska.
The 24hr 6 day a week job i was speaking of was working in the towing industry in the Mojave desert. There aren’t a lot of people that can work 36 hrs straight in temperatures that hit 125 F + every summer. It’s not so much that as it is that I have a lot of heart. I don’t want to do this for the money(i would be lying if i said that the money wouldn’t be nice) but I want to do it to challenge myself. To be able to step off of one of those boats and say that I did something that not many people can do or would even try to do. I have always pushed myself and this seems like a good opportunity.

I am Japanese. I will go fishing to Florida next February . I will fish bass in some lakes with fishing guides. I will present some Japanese lures for them. I think it’s a good idea. But I have no ideas what to present. So I want to ask you what kind of Japanese lures are noticed in America? What pleases them ?
